The morning began with the sound of pedals clicking into place, hugs between old friends, and the hopeful smiles of first-time riders.  Some came in bright team jerseys, others in gear that had seen many long rides, but everyone at the Growling Beaver shared the same purpose: to ride for people living with Parkinson’s across Canada, and to move together toward a future filled with hope.

This year, nearly 400 riders joined the event and together raised an extraordinary amount close to $650,000. Every kilometre pedaled and every dollar donated will go directly toward research, programs, and support that changes lives. These numbers reflect more than fundraising totals. They are a symbol of determination, generosity, and the collective power of a community that refuses to give up.

Sarah Macrae Blakeley, one of this year’s participants, shared the heart of her experience:

“When I’m on my bike, I feel completely normal. Parkinson’s symptoms seem to vanish, and for those hours on the road, I feel like myself again. Cycling has truly become my magic elixir.”

Moments like these are what make the Growling Beaver unforgettable. You cannot measure them in distance or dollars. A rider slowing down to cheer on a teammate during a climb. A laugh shared at the water stop. A volunteer handing out snacks with boundless energy. Families waiting at the finish line with signs and cheers.

Steve Iseman, a longtime participant, described what keeps him returning year after year:

“The Growling Beaver was unapologetically tough, brilliantly organized, and filled with incredible people. Every time I finish, I feel proud to contribute to something bigger than myself.”

His words echo the heart of this event. Beyond the hills and finish lines, what matters most is resilience, connection, and the belief that progress is possible.

The Growling Beaver is proof that when people come together with passion and purpose, incredible things happen.

To every rider, donor, volunteer, and supporter: thank you. Your strength and generosity keep this movement rolling forward, and your impact will be felt long after the last bike has crossed the finish line.
