Living with Parkinson’s: Larry’s Story of Possibility and Hope

Posted: · Last updated:

Twelve years ago, Larry Linton received life-changing news: a Parkinson’s diagnosis. At first, the journey was marked by frustration, uncertainty, and a lack of clear, trustworthy information. But Larry made a pivotal decision that reshaped his path—he chose to live with Parkinson’s, refusing to let it define him.

Through his determination and resilience, Larry discovered that, even with Parkinson’s, life is full of possibilities. His journey led him to join Parkinson Canada as a dedicated member of the Board of Directors and Chair of the Parkinson Advisory Council. Today, he is on a mission to ensure no Canadian faces Parkinson’s alone, from the moment of diagnosis to the ongoing challenges the disease can bring.

The Growing Need for Support

More than 110,000 Canadians are living with Parkinson’s today, and thousands more will receive the same diagnosis next year. The demand for reliable information, supportive services, groundbreaking research, and strong advocacy has never been greater.

Parkinson Canada is at the forefront of meeting these needs. From trusted resources to research breakthroughs, this vital work empowers individuals and their families to face Parkinson’s with strength and hope. But the demand is growing, and the time to act is now.

Doubling the Impact

In the final weeks of 2024, Larry and Parkinson Canada invite you to join this crucial mission. Thanks to a generous legacy gift from the late Jeanne Olliver, every dollar donated by December 31, 2024, will be matched, doubling the impact of your support while matching funds last.

The Difference You Can Make

Your gift today will fuel critical initiatives in 2024, including:

  • Peer-to-Peer Mentorship: A program connecting trained volunteers with people living with or caring for someone with Parkinson’s.
Your donation helps train new mentors, empowering families to build resilience and find community.
  • Research Breakthroughs: Investments in better diagnosis, treatment, and care.
Your generosity funds promising scientific work that addresses the mysteries of Parkinson’s.
  • Advocacy: Driving government action to reduce the financial and healthcare burdens of Parkinson’s, which currently cost Canadians $3.3 billion annually and are projected to rise.
Your contribution strengthens advocacy efforts for affordable medications, enhanced financial support, and access to specialized care.

Larry’s Message of Hope
