Introducing our 2021 Impact Report

Each year Parkinson Canada produces an organizational Impact Report that highlights the past year’s successes and achievements, and touches on future goals.

On June 18, 2022, Parkinson Canada CEO Karen Lee, along with board chair Veeral Khatri, presented our 2021 Impact Report at our Annual General Meeting in Toronto. Members of the Parkinson Advisory Council (PAC) and the Research and Clinical Advisory Committee (RCAC) joined our Board of Directors for its debut.

Our Impact Report serves a few different purposes. It helps donors see where their donations go, it helps prospective donors understand how we help Canadians with Parkinson’s live well and it helps those impacted by Parkinson’s learn about the programs and services we bring to their community.

This year’s report highlighted how well the Parkinson’s community was able to work together in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic.

What we achieved in 2021

While we encourage you to browse our 2021 Impact Report in full, we’re happy to provide a few highlights:

• The creation of the Parkinson Advisory Council and the Research and Clinical Advisory Committee gave us the opportunity to be more collaborative, and valuable insight into the needs of Canadians impacted by Parkinson’s.
• We began to live our vision of a digital-first organization by creating digital access to support and resources. As a result, our downloadable resources were accessed more than ever before, participant numbers in virtual support groups more than doubled and webinar attendance reached a record-breaking 13,000 attendees.
• We continued work on the recently published National Advocacy Roundtable report and are in the midst of releasing the resulting provincial reports.
• We continue to grow our Ambassador Program across the country, which will allow us to reach even more elected officials, raising the voice of those impacted by Parkinson’s.
• We saw C-OPN gain momentum as the research we support becomes more rooted in collaboration not only with the research community but with Canadians impacted by Parkinson’s as well.

All of this is made possible because of our donors, staff, supporters and volunteers.
Even in the wake of the pandemic, more than 58,000 Canadians chose to support our cause through donations. More than 2 million dollars were raised by SuperWalk, Pedaling for Parkinson’s and 3rd party events like the Growling Beaver Brevet, despite there not being any in-person events in 2021.
