The Governance & Nominating Committee is calling for candidates for the Parkinson Canada Board of Directors. There are four (4) vacancies to be filled for a three (3) year term (2023 – 2026) with the total Board membership being fifteen (15).

Our Mission
Parkinson Canada believes in a better life today for People Living with Parkinson’s, and a world without Parkinson’s tomorrow. Canada has some of the world’s highest rates, and it is growing quickly. People living with Parkinson’s are at the centre of everything we do at Parkinson Canada. We provide education and services, and we advocate with federal, provincial, and territorial governments on issues that matter to the Parkinson’s community in Canada. The Parkinson Research Program funds innovative research to search for better treatments and a cure.

The Opportunity
Parkinson Canada is particularly looking for leadership volunteers with knowledge and/or experience in the following areas:
- Fundraising
- Marketing
- Public relations
- Digital communications
Governance leadership experience serving on another non-profit or corporate board is welcome, but not required. Emphasis will be on recruitment of candidates who have the time and experience to make a significant impact on the long-term performance of Parkinson Canada.

- Motivator: Ability to influence stakeholders and investors
- Bridge builder: demonstrated ability to network and make connections
- Commitment to Parkinson’s
- Engagement: Time and energy to participate in Board meetings and discussions
- A willingness to participate in and support Parkinson Canada fundraising activities
Time Commitment
- A minimum of three 1 ½ day in-person Board meetings per year (travel may be required)
- 1-3 teleconference Board meetings; and
- Participation on at least one Board committee
Selection Process
- All applicants must submit a letter of interest & resume as part of the online Board of Directors Application Form (see link below) by May 1, 2023. Selected applicants will be contacted by a Governance & Nominating Committee representative to arrange a virtual interview.
- All other applicants will be informed about the outcome of the selection process by May 26, 2023.
Formal elections to the Board of Directors will take place at the Parkinson Canada Annual General Meeting of Members on Tuesday, June 20, 2023 in Toronto, Ontario, with a full new Board member orientation provided after that date.
Incoming Board Directors should be available June 19th and 20th for travel to Toronto for the Annual General Meeting. Parkinson Canada provides reasonable accommodations to facilitate the participation of Board members in all in-person meetings, including travel for care partners.
