The Governance & Nominating Committee is inviting applications from persons interested in being considered for the role of Parkinson Canada Board Director. There are three (3) Board Director vacancies to be filled, each for a three (3) year term (2024 – 2027).

Our Mission

Parkinson Canada believes in a better life today for People Living with Parkinson’s, and a world without Parkinson’stomorrow.

Canada has some of the world’s highest population rates of People living with Parkinson’s, and people living with Parkinson’s are at the center of everything we do.

  • We provide education and services to help people with Parkinson’s thrive
  • We engage in advocacy with federal, provincial, and territorial governments on issues that matter
  • We fund innovative research into better treatments and a cure through our Parkinson’s Research Program.

The Opportunity

Parkinson Canada is looking for leadership volunteers with knowledge and/or experience in the following areas:

  • Fundraising
  • Risk/Finance
  • Strategic Partnerships
  • Legal – corporate, charitable sector

Governance education and leadership experience serving on a non-profit or corporate board is preferred, but not required. Emphasis will be on the recruitment of candidates who have the time and experience to contribute to the success of Parkinson Canada.

Time Commitment

  • Minimum of three, 1 ½ day in-person Board meetings per year (travel may be required)
  • Minimum of one to three 2-hour teleconference Board meetings; and
  • Minimum of one, 1 hour Board committee meeting every 2-3 months
  • Time to read and prepare for meetings (1 hour per meeting)

Selection Process

  • All applicants must submit a letter of interest & resume by March 28, 2024, to the Chair, Governance and Nominating Committee at directors@parkinson.ca
  • Selected applicants will be contacted by a Governance & Nominating Committee representative to arrange a virtual interview
  • All other applicants will be informed about the outcome of the selection process by May 31,

Formal elections to the Board of Directors will take place at the Parkinson Canada Annual General Meeting of Members on June 25th in Toronto, Ontario, with a Board member orientation at a subsequent date.

Incoming Board Directors should be available June 24th to 25th for travel to Toronto for the Annual General Meeting. Parkinson Canada provides reasonable accommodations to facilitate the participation of Board members at all in-person meetings, including travel for care partners.
