Speech-Language Pathologist

Description

Speech-language pathology services for adults focus on maintaining and improving communication, voice, speech clarity, and swallowing safety. Services may include assessment and treatment of reduced vocal loudness, soft or breathy voice, imprecise articulation, rapid speech, changes in facial expression, cognitive-communication difficulties, and swallowing concerns.

Intervention is individualized and may involve voice-strengthening exercises, strategies to improve speech intelligibility, breath support, pacing, communication-partner training, and education for clients and families. Swallowing assessment and therapy may also be provided to support safer eating and drinking, reduce the risk of aspiration, and promote continued participation in daily activities. Treatment emphasizes practical strategies that help individuals communicate confidently and maintain independence throughout the progression of Parkinson’s disease.

Area of Expertise

I have direct clinical experience evaluating adults with Parkinson’s disease in a private-practice setting. My role has included assessing changes in voice, vocal loudness, speech clarity, speaking rate, breath support, and overall functional communication. I have also completed SPEAK OUT!® training and hold a SPEAK OUT!® certificate. Based on assessment findings, I provide individualized recommendations regarding treatment priorities, communication strategies, caregiver education, and appropriate referrals.
