BlogStaying healthy this flu and COVID-19 season Staying healthy this flu and COVID-19 season Posted Date : Oct 20, 2025 This season can bring extra worries with colds, influenza, RSV and COVID-19 circulating. For people living with Parkinson’s or caring for someone who does, falling ill can feel more concerning. The good news is that there are simple protective measures you can take to lower your risk and feel more prepared. Why it matters When you live with Parkinson’s, getting sick is rarely just a minor setback. Illnesses like COVID-19 or the flu can lead to complications and may temporarily heighten symptoms such as fatigue, stiffness, or balance changes. Preparing ahead helps protect your routines and gives you more peace of mind. What you can do Stay up to date on vaccines. The yearly flu shot and the updated COVID-19 booster are simple, effective ways to lower your risk of getting seriously ill. Small habits have a big impact. Washing your hands, covering coughs and sneezes, and wearing a mask in crowded indoor spaces can help prevent or limit the transmission of illness. Take care of your body and mind. A short walk on a good day, a balanced meal, or giving yourself time to rest all help your immune system stay strong. Lean on your care team. Your doctor or pharmacist can guide you on which vaccines and supports are the best fit for your health. If you do get sick Contact your health care provider quickly if you notice sudden changes in your Parkinson’s symptoms. If you develop trouble breathing, go to the hospital immediately. Give your body time to heal. Staying hydrated and resting as much as you can, will support your recovery. Accept support when you need it. Lean on family, friends, or care partners for help with daily tasks so you can focus on getting better. Remember you’re not alone. Living with Parkinson’s often means planning ahead, especially during cold and flu season. The good news is that the right steps can lower your risk and help you feel more confident facing this time of year. Most importantly, remember that you don’t have to do it all on your own.
