ProfileLiz Loewen (Vice-Chair) Liz Loewen (Vice-Chair) Diagnosed with Parkinson’s in 2018, Liz brings both her lived experience as well as decades of involvement in health system leadership with a focus on digital health solutions and nursing informatics to the Parkinson Advisory Council (PAC). Liz is strengthened by the passion of the Parkinson’s community and feels privileged to contribute in this way. When she’s not working, you can find Liz enjoying outdoor activities especially biking, paddling and cross-country skiing with family and friends and, her newest endeavour, weaving creations on her loom. She also contributes volunteer time to other passions – from music events to encouraging active transportation to improving quality of life through arts programming in healthcare settings. What motivates you to be a part of the Council? Parkinson Canada was an invaluable source of information and support when I was first diagnosed. The PAC is a chance to give back and contribute to both the organization and the Parkinson’s community. What is a key message that you think people living with Parkinson’s or care partners need to hear? I am not sure if I have one key message – the experience and impact are different for everyone. The message that has resonated for me, at my stage, has been that there is a diverse and active Parkinson’s community where you can find a wealth of information and supports. What part of Parkinson Canada’s work are you most passionate about (i.e., research, advocacy, support, etc.) and why? I am passionate about advocacy and research to increase awareness about Parkinson’s and to strive to improve treatment options and reduce the incidence of Parkinson’s in the future. Share this post:
