Julie Nantel is an associate professor at the University of Ottawa, faculty of health sciences, School of Human Kinetics, and an adjunct professor at the University of Waterloo Systems Design Engineering. She received her PhD from the University of Montreal and joined the Movement Disorders Center in the department of neurology and neurological sciences at Stanford University for a postdoctoral fellowship.

Julie has extensive research experience in biomechanical assessment of healthy and pathological gait and postural balance. More specifically, her work in the past 12 years has focused on identifying the control mechanisms involved in gait regulation and adaptation in healthy young and older adults, as well as in individuals with Parkinson’s.

Julie has developed innovative research protocols to better understand, identify and predict freezing of gait and postural instability, as well as to improve gait and overall mobility in individuals living with Parkinson’s.
