Understanding and managing falls in Parkinson’s

Falls are a leading cause of injury and hospitalization for individuals living with Parkinson’s, often resulting in reduced mobility and quality of life. During our webinar on Wednesday, November 19 from 2 to 3 p.m. ET, we will examine risk factors, prevention, and how to get up if a fall does occur. This must-see session will offer valuable tools to enhance safety and support independence while living with Parkinson’s.

Naomi Casiro, BSc. (Kin), MPT, Certified PWR! Therapist Registered Physiotherapist and Founder NeuroFit BC

Naomi Casiro is a registered physiotherapist and the owner of NeuroFit BC, a physiotherapy practice and educational platform focused on Parkinson’s and falls training. She uses this platform to teach older adults to fall properly and to educate health professionals on how to effectively treat Parkinson’s. Prior to developing her own treatment model, Naomi trained as a PWR! therapist, and completed both basic and advanced level postgraduate training in the Bobath concept. She designed and created the Changing Parkinson’s course based on years of clinical experience and research-based knowledge. Naomi has worked in neuro rehab in both private and public practice settings.

Prior to becoming a physiotherapist, Naomi practiced as a kinesiologist, swim coach and personal trainer which is where her inspiration to help clients build healthy balanced lives through exercise began. She developed the fundamentals of functional movement program (FFM) for the treatment of Parkinson’s clients, which she uses in clinical practice and teaches to students and health professionals across the country. Naomi strives to combine the worlds of exercise and neuro-rehab to give clients with neurological conditions and older adults a more holistic approach to health and recovery. She is passionate about helping people with Parkinson’s fight back against the condition and helping those who fall avoid life-altering injuries.

Currently Naomi runs exercise programs, treats clients, runs seminars/courses across Canada, and is an adjunct professor at the University of British Columbia in the physiotherapy department. When not pursuing her passions in physiotherapy, Naomi can be found playing with her three young children or exploring the world of exercise through martial arts, weightlifting, and swimming.
