Dr. Tiago A. Mestre, MD, M.Sc., is a neurologist specializing in movement disorders. He completed his doctorate in medicine training at Lisbon Medical School. He became interested in movement disorders during his neurology training under the mentorship of Prof. Joaquim Ferreira.
Dr. Mestre then went on to complete a clinical and research fellowship under the supervision of Prof. Anthony Lang at the University of Toronto. He also has two master’s degrees, one in neuroscience from Lisbon Medical School and another in clinical epidemiology from the University of Toronto.
Dr. Mestre is currently an assistant professor at the University of Ottawa and an associate scientist at the Ottawa Hospital Research Institute. He also is the director of the Deep Brain Stimulation program at The Ottawa Hospital.
Dr. Mestre’s main research interests are the development of therapies for unmet health care needs, which include conducting clinical trials; care integration in Parkinson’s; and study of placebo treatments. Currently, he serves as co-chair of the Task Force on Parkinson’s Subtypes at the International Parkinson and Movement Disorder Society.
