He is also the director of the SNC, a campus-based neuroscience group at the Universit\u00e9 de Montr\u00e9al focusing on neural connectivity, and co-director of the University of Montreal initiative in neuroscience and mental health (SensUM). His main research interests concern the mechanisms that control the connectivity and vulnerability of dopamine-containing neurons in the brain and the causes of Parkinson\u2019s disease. His laboratory has made numerous contributions to our understanding of the ability of dopamine neurons to use glutamate as a co-transmitter, on the functions of dopamine D2 autoreceptors and on the origin of the selective vulnerability of dopamine neurons in Parkinson\u2019s disease. An important present research focus is also on the implication of immune mechanisms in this disease. Much of his current research is aimed at identifying strategies to increase the resilience of dopamine neurons, to develop better animal models of Parkinson\u2019s and to identify new therapeutic approaches for this neurodegenerative disease. He has published more than 130 research articles and obtained numerous salary awards and research grants from the Canadian Institutes of Health Research, Neuroscience Canada, the Fonds de la Recherche en Sant\u00e9 du Qu\u00e9bec, the EJLB Foundation, Brain Canada, the Krembil Foundation, The Michael J Fox Foundation for Parkinson&rsquo;s research, Parkinson Society Canada and more recently the Aligning Science Across Parkinson\u2019s (ASAP) initiative.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-group is-layout-constrained wp-block-group-is-layout-constrained\">\n<div style=\"height:100px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer is-style-responsive-xsmall\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:100px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer is-style-responsive-xsmall\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>Louis-Eric Trudeau est professeur titulaire de pharmacologie, de physiologie et de neurosciences \u00e0 la Facult\u00e9 de m\u00e9decine de l&rsquo;Universit\u00e9 de Montr\u00e9al. Il est \u00e9galement directeur du SNC, un groupe neuroscientifique de l&rsquo;Universit\u00e9 de Montr\u00e9al bas\u00e9 sur le campus et ax\u00e9 sur la connectivit\u00e9 neuronale, et codirecteur de l&rsquo;Initiative en neurosciences et en sant\u00e9 mentale de l&rsquo;Universit\u00e9 de Montr\u00e9al (SensUM). Ses principaux int\u00e9r\u00eats de recherche concernent les m\u00e9canismes qui contr\u00f4lent la connectivit\u00e9 et la vuln\u00e9rabilit\u00e9 des neurones dopaminergiques dans le cerveau et les causes de la maladie de Parkinson. Son laboratoire a apport\u00e9 de nombreuses contributions \u00e0 notre compr\u00e9hension de la capacit\u00e9 des neurones dopaminergiques \u00e0 utiliser le glutamate comme co-transmetteur, des fonctions des autor\u00e9cepteurs D2 de la dopamine et de l&rsquo;origine de la vuln\u00e9rabilit\u00e9 s\u00e9lective des neurones dopaminergiques dans la maladie de Parkinson. L&rsquo;implication des m\u00e9canismes immunitaires dans cette maladie constitue \u00e9galement un axe de recherche important \u00e0 l&rsquo;heure actuelle. Une grande partie de ses recherches actuelles vise \u00e0 identifier des strat\u00e9gies pour augmenter la r\u00e9silience des neurones dopaminergiques, \u00e0 d\u00e9velopper de meilleurs mod\u00e8les animaux de la maladie de Parkinson et \u00e0 identifier de nouvelles approches th\u00e9rapeutiques pour cette maladie neurod\u00e9g\u00e9n\u00e9rative.
