{"id":47704,"date":"2025-01-23T20:02:16","date_gmt":"2025-01-23T20:02:16","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/parkinson.ca\/?post_type=profile&#038;p=47704"},"modified":"2025-02-12T21:46:40","modified_gmt":"2025-02-12T21:46:40","slug":"steven-iseman","status":"publish","type":"profile","link":"https:\/\/www.parkinson.ca\/fr\/profile\/steven-iseman\/","title":{"rendered":"Steven Iseman"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Diagnosed with Parkinson\u2019s in 2015, Steven has been an active member of the young-onset Parkinson\u2019s community and in the broader Parkinson\u2019s community, particularly in maintaining his athletic rigour.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In the years following his diagnosis, Steven came to recognize the insufficient tools and facilities to assist younger and relatively able-bodied people living with Parkinson\u2019s. After this discovery, he set a personal life goal to help improve representation of those individuals and their needs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In 2018, Steven co-founded the \u201cRigid Riders\u201d, which drew from his years of cycling experience and his deep enthusiasm for the sport. He worked to create a supportive and nurturing community of people living with Parkinson\u2019s, supporters and coaches. Weekly rides are held during each spring and summer and the group participates in the Peddling for Parkinson\u2019s event. Despite the restrictions from COVID-19, there was an immediate demand for the group and the inaugural team of 40, quickly rose to 60 and counting. The group has worked with Parkinson Canada from the inception and has an excellent working relationship with the organization.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading has-regular-font-size\">What motivates you to be a part of the Council?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>I\u2019d like to work with Parkinson Canada to create some services and facilities that don\u2019t yet exist in Canada, but which could really improve the lives of people living with Parkinson\u2019s.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading has-regular-font-size\">What is a key message that you think people living with Parkinson\u2019s or care partners need to hear?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>You are not alone. There are supportive people who know what you are going through and are eager to meet you.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading has-regular-font-size\">What part of Parkinson Canada\u2019s work are you most passionate about (i.e., research, advocacy, support,&nbsp;etc.) and why?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>I am most passionate about supporting physical and mental health, because I believe that disease-altering therapies are coming, and we must remain in our best possible physical and mental state to benefit.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:100px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer is-style-responsive-xsmall\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:100px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer is-style-responsive-xsmall\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>Diagnostiqu\u00e9 avec la maladie de Parkinson en 2015, Steven a \u00e9t\u00e9 un membre actif de la communaut\u00e9 des jeunes atteints de la maladie de Parkinson et de la communaut\u00e9 plus large de la maladie de Parkinson, en particulier en maintenant sa rigueur athl\u00e9tique.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Dans les ann\u00e9es qui ont suivi son diagnostic, Steven s&rsquo;est rendu compte du manque d&rsquo;outils et d&rsquo;installations pour aider les personnes jeunes et relativement valides vivant avec la maladie de Parkinson. Apr\u00e8s cette d\u00e9couverte, il s&rsquo;est fix\u00e9 comme objectif personnel de contribuer \u00e0 am\u00e9liorer la repr\u00e9sentation de ces personnes et de leurs besoins.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>En 2018, Steven a cofond\u00e9 les \u00ab\u00a0Rigid Riders\u00a0\u00bb, qui s&rsquo;appuient sur ses ann\u00e9es d&rsquo;exp\u00e9rience en cyclisme et son profond enthousiasme pour ce sport. Il s&rsquo;est efforc\u00e9 de cr\u00e9er une communaut\u00e9 de soutien et d&rsquo;encouragement compos\u00e9e de personnes atteintes de la maladie de Parkinson, de sympathisants et d&rsquo;entra\u00eeneurs. Des randonn\u00e9es hebdomadaires sont organis\u00e9es au printemps et en \u00e9t\u00e9 et le groupe participe \u00e0 l&rsquo;\u00e9v\u00e9nement Peddling for Parkinson&rsquo;s. Malgr\u00e9 les restrictions impos\u00e9es par le COVID-19, la demande pour le groupe a \u00e9t\u00e9 imm\u00e9diate et l&rsquo;\u00e9quipe inaugurale de 40 personnes est rapidement pass\u00e9e \u00e0 60, et ce n&rsquo;est pas fini. Le groupe travaille avec Parkinson Canada depuis le d\u00e9but et entretient d&rsquo;excellentes relations de travail avec l&rsquo;organisation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading has-regular-font-size\">Qu&rsquo;est-ce qui vous motive \u00e0 faire partie du Conseil ?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>J&rsquo;aimerais travailler avec Parkinson Canada pour cr\u00e9er des services et des installations qui n&rsquo;existent pas encore au Canada, mais qui pourraient vraiment am\u00e9liorer la vie des personnes atteintes de la maladie de Parkinson.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading has-regular-font-size\">Quel est, selon vous, le message cl\u00e9 que les personnes atteintes de la maladie de Parkinson ou les partenaires de soins doivent entendre ?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Vous n&rsquo;\u00eates pas seul.
