Sail on with Parkinson's – Sudbury

You are invited to come meet a very special couple.
Just a year after realizing his dream of owning a sailboat, Steve Van Vlaenderen was diagnosed with Parkinson’s and was told by doctors he should give up sailing.

That was seven years ago. The Winnipegger didn’t listen to his doctors, and he certainly didn’t give up on his dream. On June 18, 2018, the 68-year-old yachtsman along with first mate and partner Darlene Hildebrand, headed out on the first leg on a journey through the Great Lakes to raise awareness about Parkinson’s.

As a Parkinson Canada Ambassador, by sharing his experience as someone who lives with and has to cope with the challenges of the Parkinson’s disease every day, Steve hopes to inspire others that they do not have to give up on their dreams …

He encourages others not to let Parkinson’s define who they are.

… and with over 2,000 followers on their facebook page, his personal journey is obviously helping many others.
