Clinical TrialSleep and Exercise for Parkinson’s Sleep and Exercise for Parkinson’s Researchers from McGill University are conducting a randomized controlled study to identify the best type of exercise for improving sleep quality in persons living with Parkinson’s Disease. The researchers also want to know whether different types of exercise can lead to different improvements in motor function, cognition, fatigue, and quality of life. Knowing which type of exercise is most effective is essential for the patient. This large study, funded by the Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR), will offer people with Parkinson’s Disease, the possibility to participate in a fully supervised and individualized 12-week training program that will involve three training session per week of approximately 45 minutes each. Participants will train under the supervision of a qualified trainer and the exercise will be tailored to their individual capacity. To facilitate access to the study, training sessions will be offered at two sites: the Jewish Rehabilitation Hospital (Laval) and on McGill campus (Montreal). To cover travel and/or parking costs, participants will receive $10 for each training session attended. At the end of the project, a detailed report containing the results of the study will be provided to each participant. The report will also contain personalized guidelines to continue exercising independently.
