Alberta Parkinson organization receives highest honour from Parkinson Society Canada
| Calgary, AB, June 3, 2011 … The newly formed Parkinson Alberta will receive one of Parkinson Society Canada’s highest honours, the Dr. Morton Shulman Award, at a dinner to be held in Calgary on Friday June 3, 2011. The presentation is being made at the Parkinson Alberta Society Hope Conference and recognizes the outstanding achievement of two Parkinson’s organizations, Parkinson Society Alberta and Parkinson Society Southern Alberta who have amalgamated into one organization, to better serve the needs of the 8,000 Albertans who struggle to cope with this degenerative brain disease every single day. “Parkinson Alberta Society receives this award for exemplifying the creativity, energy and tenacity of the late Morton Shulman to influence and make a difference in the face of adversity. Parkinson Society Southern Alberta and Parkinson Society Alberta have demonstrated this excellence while merging into one organization, Parkinson Alberta Society,” said Parkinson Society Canada President & CEO, Joyce Gordon. “The transformation to one organization, the newly created Parkinson Alberta Society, has made a significant impact, expanding the capacity to reach all parts of Alberta to support more families, friends, co-workers, colleagues and communities affected by Parkinson’s,” she added. “We salute the dedication and commitment of staff and volunteers and we honour and recognize all the volunteers, staff members and stakeholders who had a hand in its creation.” Parkinson Society Canada presents this award to Parkinson Alberta Society to honour and recognize all the volunteers, staff members and stakeholders who had a hand in its creation. “We are delighted to receive this honour and recognize and thank all of our Board members and staff who worked so hard to bring about this significant change.
