Psychosocial Research Grant


Parkinson Society Canada has partnered with the Canadian Institutes of Health Research’s Institute of Neurosciences, Mental Health & Addiction (INMHA) to make the most of our psychosocial research funding potential.

The objective of these awards is to:

  • Increase interest in Parkinson's disease
  • Encourage psychosocial research in Parkinson’s disease from other health disciplines, such as:
    • Nursing
    • Occupational therapy
    • Speech language pathology
    • Social work

Funding is being offered as a complement to the biomedical research that is currently being funded. Applications to this initiative MUST be psychosocial in focus.

Emphasis is placed on research directed toward:

  • Improving quality of life
  • Increasing understanding and treatment of non-motor and motor symptoms of Parkinson's
  • Addressing issues pertaining to:
    • Caregiving
    • Supportive interventions
    • Behavioural changes
    • Cognitive changes

Research can address the full spectrum of the stages of Parkinson’s disease including end of life/ palliative care or ethical issues and can involve qualitative and /or quantitative methodologies.

Parkinson Society Canada is committed to:

  • Advancing our research program to better serve Canadians with Parkinson’s
  • Foster Canadian Parkinson’s research leadership internationally
  • Support efforts to ease the burden and find a cure

Research Grant

  • Two year duration, maximum $50,000 per annum
  • This award is non-renewable
  • Applications receiving a rating of less than 3.5 will not be considered for funding
